Nils Petersen received his Diploma Degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science from the University of Karlsruhe (TH), Germany in 2008 and his PhD from the University of Kaiserslautern in 2014. His research interests are focused on learning-based authoring of Augmented Reality content and generally on the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality. In 2014, he started a research group within DFKI called “Cognitive Augmented Reality” that investigates this intersection.
His research work was awarded with a Best Paper Award for his Morphing Billboards approach, an award for outstanding doctoral thesis by the university and the KSK, and an innovation price within the federal excellence cluster programme Software-Cluster.
The application of his reserach has led to the spin-off company ioxp that additionally has been awarded with best start-up idea 2014 and has won the main price of the national innovation contest IKT-innovativ.
Today, he is regularly being invited as speaker or external expert for industrial applications of Augmented Reality and has been reviewer on several influential scientific conferences on the topic, including ISMAR and ICCV.
